Makita 9911 5.6 Amp 3-Inch by 18-Inch Variable Speed Belt Sander with Cloth Dust Bag

Amazon.com Review
Designed for professionals seeking a lightweight and quiet tool, this belt sander from Makita delivers precision control and performance that won’t wear you out. The popular Makita motor is known for long life and reliability, and, unlike most other brands, the brushes can be accessed and changed from the outside casing. We found the adjustable speed dial to be spot-on for accuracy throughout its entire range, from a slow 250 feet per minute for delicate work to a blistering 900 feet per minute for serious stock removal. However, even at a powerful 5.6 amps, the motor is quiet compared to other models we tested. Woodworkers of all skill levels will appreciate the self-centering belt, and the quick and easy belt change translates into less prep time and increased production. With one of the better dust-collection bags on the market and a flattop design for benchtop use, this is a great sander for all midweight applications. –Justin Paul

Rugged and reliable but not all that pretty
I have several belt sanders, each for a different purpose. This Makita variable speed model is, by far, my favorite to use, especially for long periods of time.

Do not buy this belt sander
I just purchased this today to scribe a countertop. Didn’t want to spend close to $200 on a really good belt sander so I got this one from a pawn shop for about $60.

Mini but mighty.
If you’re after a compact belt sander with plenty of power and features, this Makita is first class.

When a ROS Isn’t Quite Enough
I recently picked this up for $79 on clearance at The Borg and am thrilled with it. I already have a large heavy duty belt sander, but I rarely use the monster because it is so…

Don’t get this sander
I used this sander for less than 2 hours and the belt stopped revolving. The drive belt broke. The other thing that happened with this sander is the first belt of sand paper…

effective, light, and reliable
I wanted a belt sander for quickly removing a lot of wood, but I also wanted it to be light enough to use vertically or overhead if necessary.

Excellent midlevel performer
Was terribly disappointed at first – A clip fell out on the belt’s first rotation. After an hour take-apart, the clip was back in place, and I set out to strip old paint off of a…
