Drill Question?

by William on October 13, 2009

I have a Makita drill, after 18 years of service this weekend finaly gave up, should I fix it or should I buy a new one, This makita was 200 and something, and to buy one like mine it would be that much, to fix it it would cost me about 30.00 but would it last an other 18 years? what do you think?

As far as I am concerned Makita is one of the best on the market Internationally and if it is only going to cost you $30 to get fixed I would say go for it.
Ask them to check it out when it is in pieces to see if there is anything else that is likely to wear out.
Get the carbon brushes done anyway.

I like my tools so I try to fix them when they need repair. However, after 18 yrs. I suspect that $30.00 won’t repair it. If it will, I would give it a shot. $30.00 isn’t that much. If you have to replace the drill I suggest that you go with a commercial grade rather than comsumer like they sell in Wal-mart. I think that good tools are a good investment. All depends on how much you use your tools. Good luck.

Fix the old girl….heck send her in for an overhaul……spend the fifty and while you are at the service center maybe buy her a new case…….she has not let you down yet and I think you Two have many years ahead to get to know each other even Better

Depends on the problem. If it’s a switch or brushes, you can probably get it repaired for $30 or so. If the armature burned out, time for a new one.
