How Big Of A Generator Will I Need For Two 1/2 Hp Sanders?

by William on July 31, 2009

Each sander is rated for 10 amps, regular 120 volt input and it is a makita 9227C sander/polisher. I want the smallest and quietest generator I can get.

10A. @ 120V. = 1.2 KVA. ( Power factor correction
is not practical here, so read KVA as KW.)
You will need to be able to start the second unit
while the first one is running, so you will need a
generator rated at least :
2.4 KW constant, 3.6 KW surge.

you need at lest 2400 watts so you need at least a 3000 watt generator

amps X volts = watts
