Don’t forget that Akita’s (not Makita, that’s a power tool) are Japanese fighting dogs. They have lots of small animal aggression. I have a friend who raises them.

The Akita is a noble breed – dignified, intelligent, loyal, devoted,
courageous , and aloof to strangers. Akitas can adapt to many
different situations and can be marvelous watchdogs (typically not
barking unless there’s a good reason) and companions. They require a
great deal of socialization as puppies, and obedience training is very
important as Akitas are dominant dogs and tend to be aggressive
towards other dogs, especially of the same sex.

fyi :
i have been told that breeds with curly tails, ie chow-chows, akitas, malamutes, and huskys tend to be very independent and hard to train. (as a generalization) Keep in mind what the breed of dog was bred to do. This will give you an idea of how it will act.

NOT the breed for an inexperienced handler who isn’t enough of an Alpha personality to make any dog anywhere obey them at any time.
Very dominant and independent and guardy.
If you haven’t trained and handled what professional trainers call “tough” dogs, don’t go there. If you don’t know what I meant, you haven’t done it.
Also many homeowners insurers will cancel your insurance if you have an Akita

Akitas can be wonderful dogs, but they are VERY protective of their family and can attack in defense of the family. We had a great Akita named Tojo after the wrestler and he attacked a neighbor who was changing a flat tire. He thought the neighbor was doing something bad. He bit the nieghbor on the hand, but since the neighbor had on thick gloves, Tojo did not do any harm.
