Makita, Honda, Stihl. i’m looking to buy one and i have also noticed some are 4 strokes so i would like your opinion on them, and my biggest want is one that will start just about every time i pull the rope, i’ve had a gut full spending 10 minutes to start the one i have now. any other makes you would like to suggest i will consider. Thankyou for any advice you can give me— this is for home use only.

Hey Dumb Bunny
They’re all very good, you didn’t mention Kawazaki which are the best for commercial use (in my opinion). I personally wouldn’t get a Makita again because the fuel line can be snagged on branches and pulled off, causing the petrol to empty out. I’ve seen fuel caps on Stihl models come loose whilst in operation and Stihl are very highly priced.
If you really need to buy a new one I would go for a Honda or Kawazaki as they tend to offer the best and longest warranties. So if anything goes wrong, you can just take it back to the dealer. They also have good recoil start mechanisms which make pull starting much easier : )
-If you’re having trouble starting the engine, it might be a simple problem.
Have you changed the spark plug recently?
Have you cleaned the fuel filter lately?
Are you putting the right fuel/oil mix in the tank?
Most problems are to do with these three things.
If it is one of these things then hopefully we could save you a few hundred pounds/dollars.
honda starts the best. for durability of entire machine i prefer stihl. but since u hate the pulling part get a honda. stihl usually starts pretty good but is more expensive than honda
Best engineered one is Stihl in my opinion.
