Makita, Milwaukee, and DeWalt are the best on that list.
A cordless drill is a drill/ driver because it drills holes and also drives in screws. It probably has two speeds which is a good feature. It goes slow so driving screws is easier, and it goes fast to drill holes.
YOU DON'T WANT A HAMMER DRILL!!! (THE TYLER TOOL CO. LINK). TYLER TOOL CO HAS GOOD DEALS THOUGH.
A drill/driver is a good thing. In fact, make sure it says drill/ driver. That's exactly what you want — nothing else. You want to make sure that it has at least two batteries. I assume any set would. When one battery runs down, you pop in the second battery. Having just one battery can be a problem.
Drill/ driver as in screwdriver.
I was at Tyler Tool, and I searched cordless, combo, drill, driver, & this is what I got:http://search.store.yahoo.net/cgi-bin/ns…
I went a step further because I thought it would be interesting to search cordless combo drill driver circular saw flashlight. I'd like those things in a combohttp://www.tylertool.com/bosch164.htmlhttp://www.tylertool.com/dedw18v4toco.ht…http://www.tylertool.com/makitalxt601.ht…

My husband has at least 10 cordless drills, all different brands. He says that the Milwaukee is the best, but if you don't want to spend an arm and a leg, a Makita is durable and will do the job.

If he's going to use it frequently, I would recommend DeWalt, Milwaukee, or Makita. These cost a little more, but are better quality drills. The other brands are fine for occasional use. I have a Sears Craftsman 19.2v that I bought for about $80. I use it occasionally and it has served me well. The 19.2v gives me a little more "oomph" than a 14.4v. A good quality drill bit makes a huge difference as well. Once they start to wear, it really doesn't matter what brand of drill you have.

Dewalt in my opinion for the money,
Milwaukee for the service. I used to run an industrial shop and it used a lot of milwaukee, we would of course have failures after prolonged use. The service shop would quickly send us parts or repair them for us at an efficient price or many under warranty. You get what you pay for in many cases. Good Luck

it would depend on what he uses it for, does he use it on a daily basis? is he a plumber who uses it in his work, or is this for projects around the house.
if he is only using it around the house, then i would go with the black and decker, it is great for household use, and easy to store. If he uses it on the jobsite, i would go with the hitachi, it is a better make, and more durable. or a dewalt. you can price these at ether home depot or lowes. good luck.
